dang! I remember this manga. I really enjoyed it and it had so much potential but the story went downhill fast after the Monkey dude died. the main character became dumb and never used what he learned. still impressive art style tho
Yes, the plot of the latter half of this manga shifted from a realistic style to a fantasy/supernatural style, adding too many sensational elements, losing the thrilling sense of struggle and combat present in the first half. I guess it's because the artist and the original scriptwriter Hashimoto fell out, and their prolonged lawsuit distracted them. Of course, a more likely reason is that it's too long. Tanaka's other works are either short/medium length or long series scripted by others, whereas this is an ultra-long manga written and drawn by himself, so he might have run out of inspiration later on.
