Bleez is a notable anti-heroine and occasional antagonist in the DC Comics universe, primarily associated with the Red Lantern Corps. Created by writer Geoff Johns and artist Shane Davis, she made her first appearance in Final Crisis: Rage of the Red Lanterns #1 (December 2008). Hailing from the planet Havania, Bleez belonged to a winged humanoid species and was renowned for her extraordinary beauty, living a privileged existence amid numerous unwanted suitors. Her idyllic life shattered during the Sinestro Corps War when she was abducted by members of the Sinestro Corps, subjected to prolonged torture and abuse, including the mutilation of her wings, which fueled an insurmountable rage that summoned a Red Power Ring to her.
Upon bonding with the Red Power Ring, Bleez underwent a transformation that initially stripped her of higher intellect, reducing her to a feral state typical of early Red Lanterns due to the corrosive nature of rage energy. Her natural wings were replaced by skeletal bone protrusions, enhancing her menacing appearance while granting abilities such as flight, superhuman strength, durability, and the expulsion of corrosive plasma blood. As the Red Lantern Corps evolved under Atrocitus's leadership, Bleez was among the first to regain her intelligence through immersion in a ritual blood ocean, establishing her as Atrocitus's loyal second-in-command and a cunning strategist within the corps.
In the New 52 continuity and subsequent storylines, Bleez experienced significant character development, including a temporary alliance with representatives of other Lantern Corps as part of Kyle Rayner's New Guardians team after pursuing a rogue Red Ring to Earth. Her arcs often explored themes of manipulation, ambition, and lingering trauma, as she navigated power struggles within the Red Lanterns—such as attempting to acquire construct-creating abilities from fellow member Rankorr—and participated in broader events like the corps' confrontations during DC Rebirth. Bleez remains a complex figure, embodying the destructive yet potentially redemptive force of unbridled rage.
