The model I think is fairly self explanatory.
David Farland, Runelords book series fame.
He was a best seller, but nobody really talks about David Farland? He wrote the runelords story series, which is kind of like Dragon Ball Z if you got your superpowers from slavery.
Not even trying to exaggerate that, it's kind of how they do it, they use a thing, I think it's called Blood Metal? To brand people, that transfers a thing from the slave to the sort of avatar, so like, kings have super speed, super hearing, etc. because they steal it from others.
There is a goofy thing about how it only works if the slave is still alive, so some of the kings basically keep them as handicapped prisoners that are in no position to get themselves killed.
And they have tens of thousands of them.
Kind of genuinely fucked up as a concept? Like, it's a story I don't think with anyone that's really a hero, other than the protagonist, who I think just gets his power as the one chosen to be the avatar of the actual literal earth.
It's a fun series, one of my favorites. I only read up to the 4th book though, it was pre-easy internet, just got them from the library. Didn't know there was 8 in total.
I do plan on starting them from the start again and reading them to the end this time, the actual end, there's 8 finished ones.
There was going to be a 9th, that was supposed to be out on the first of this year, and I did pre-order it, just saw that it was actually canceled, my order, and the book doesn't have a storepage anymore.
Which is odd? Because they've been working on it for years. David is dead, but his assistant was working off old manuscripts, and apparently the first draft was 80% done, years ago.
So who knows what's even going on with that.
But it is a fun series, probably one that wouldn't make sense as anything other than an anime.
You couldn't really do it with live actors. Like, when I talk about how the kings have super powers, it's basically described to be more absurd than at least dragon ball, maybe not world destroying like dragon ball z, but they don't have energy blasts, but combat would kind of only really be able to be visualized as an extremely haphazard rapid blur.
