Soft Photorealism — Everyday Camera Character

We’re happy to share our latest realism model, built around soft photographic detail, strong lighting, and the familiar look of everyday cameras.

This model does photorealism beautifully, with a softer approach to skin, hair, eyes, and fine textures. It captures that casual webcam, front-facing phone camera, or inexpensive digital camera aesthetic—the kind of image that feels personal, spontaneous, and believable.

Think of a 720p or 1080p camera recording a good moment: a clear subject, recognizable expressions, convincing lighting, and slightly softened detail. There’s room for imperfect focus, modest camera optics, and the character of an ordinary photograph.

    The Look

The model’s signature is soft detail paired with confident lighting.

Skin has a gentle appearance, with smooth tonal transitions and subtle surface texture. Hair reads as soft, flowing strands and natural shapes. Eyes retain expression and believable reflections, with a softer level of detail that fits the overall camera aesthetic.

This softness works especially well alongside hard light, direct flash, strong highlights, and deep shadows. A brightly illuminated face against a darker room can feel dramatic while keeping the skin and facial features pleasantly soft.

The result is a photographic style with a little warmth, a little imperfection, and plenty of atmosphere.

    Great For

    • Webcam portraits and video-call-style images

    • Casual smartphone selfies

    • Front-facing camera photography

    • Compact digital camera snapshots

    • Candid indoor portraits

    • Bedroom, living-room, and gaming-room scenes

    • Direct-flash photography

    • Strong window light and directional lighting

    • Moody evening and nighttime photography

    • Cinematic portraits with soft facial detail

    • Fashion, lifestyle, and everyday photography

    • Images with the visual character of a 720p or 1080p capture

    Soft Skin, Hair, and Eyes

The model is designed around a gentler rendering of fine details.

For skin, that means soft transitions across the face and body, subtle variations in tone, and highlights that follow the lighting. For hair, it means a softer texture with believable volume and movement. For eyes, it means expressive shapes, natural-looking reflections, and detail that sits comfortably within the photograph.

That combination gives portraits a relaxed, approachable feel. It suits images that look like they were taken during an ordinary moment—sitting at a desk, leaning toward a webcam, taking a quick selfie, or catching the light beside a window.

    Strong Lighting & Cinematic Atmosphere

Lighting is one of this model’s strengths.

Try direct frontal flash, hard side lighting, bright window light, overhead room lighting, or a single strong light source. These can create clear facial contours, bright highlights, and substantial shadows while preserving the softer appearance of the subject.

For a cinematic feel, describe the relationship between the person and their surroundings:

A brightly illuminated subject in a dim room, strong directional light, deep background shadows, warm skin tones, and soft photographic detail.

For a more casual camera look, describe the actual source of light—a desk lamp, a nearby window, a phone screen, or a camera flash. Those concrete details help establish the mood.

    Prompting Tips

Natural-language prompts are a good starting point. Describe the subject, clothing, expression, pose, location, camera position, and lighting.

To explore the intended camera aesthetic, try phrases such as:

1080p webcam capture, 720p video still, casual smartphone photograph, front-facing camera, inexpensive compact camera, soft photographic detail, restrained sharpening, slight focus softness, subtle digital noise, mild JPEG compression, direct flash, hard directional lighting, dim ambient light, and candid framing.

Choose a few that fit your scene. The 720p/1080p wording describes the desired camera character; your generation settings determine the actual output dimensions.

    Example style prompt:

Photorealistic casual portrait of an adult woman sitting at her desk in a softly lit bedroom, looking toward a 1080p webcam with a relaxed expression. Soft skin texture, gently defined hair, natural eyes, and restrained sharpening. A strong desk lamp illuminates one side of her face, creating clear highlights and deep shadows in the room behind her. Slight camera softness, subtle digital noise, natural color, and informal framing.

Experiment with the light, framing, and camera language, and please share your generations—we’d love to see what you make with it!

Sadly we did not train a BF16, only an int8, you might be able to use chatgpt to convert this to BF16 but the quality will not improve.

@kaylabytes Converting from quantized formats back to BF16 is a rather pointless exercise. Furthermore, as far as I’m aware, converting from "INT8convrot" is not possible on non-NVIDIA hardware.

    mphobbitOct 16, 2026

    @kaylabytes

Quantization is lossy. Going from higher precision (fp32/bf16/fp16) → int8 discards information through rounding/scaling. Dequantizing int8 → bf16 reconstructs an approximation of the original floating-point weights; it does not recover the exact original higher-precision values. (by Grok)

So of course, I won't recieve a quality of BF16. Personally I need 4bit quants (I can run int8 with my 8gigs VRAM but it makes my RAM cry) and quantization further to 4bit will mess the checkpoint (had experience with fp8s) .

    UnicomOct 16, 2026

@mphobbit Yes, you can only perform quantization by using full BF16 weights. If you try to quantize from a model that has already been quantized, the result will be garbage.

Hey can you drop workflow? I tried running this model in the default Krea2 workflow, but it’s not working.
