A Journey Into a Forgotten Storybook World

Some illustrations feel like memories of places we have never actually visited.

A snow-covered market square at dusk. Crooked houses leaning toward a narrow street. A horse-drawn carriage passing glowing shop windows. Children watching a toy seller, an old clockmaker surrounded by gears, or a tiny railway disappearing into an enchanted forest.

This LoRA was created to bring that nostalgic illustrated world to Krea 2.

    About Anton Pieck

Anton Pieck was a Dutch illustrator, painter and designer known for his highly detailed and romantic vision of old Europe. His illustrations often featured historic towns, winter markets, workshops, carriages, shopkeepers and wonderfully crooked architecture.

His world was rarely grand or perfect. Buildings leaned, streets were crowded, roofs were uneven and every window seemed to hide another small story. His work combined delicate pen drawing, softly painted colors, gentle caricature and an enormous amount of carefully observed detail.

Pieck’s designs also played an important role in shaping the early visual identity of the Efteling Themepark in the Netherlands. That influence can still be recognized in its nostalgic buildings, winding paths, warm lantern light and slightly mysterious European fairytale atmosphere.

This LoRA is intended as a respectful AI tribute to that broader visual world. It is not affiliated with Anton Pieck, his estate or the Efteling, and it is not intended to reproduce any single existing artwork.

    About This LoRA

The LoRA was trained on a carefully curated collection of historical and fairytale illustrations. It focuses on characteristics such as:

    • Delicate hand-drawn ink contours

    • Soft watercolor-like color washes

    • Muted blues, warm browns and faded reds

    • Crooked historic European architecture

    • Old shops, markets, workshops and town squares

    • Period clothing and subtly caricatured townspeople

    • Dense compositions filled with small narrative details

    • Warm illuminated windows against cold or misty surroundings

    • Slightly weathered paper and traditional printed-book texture

It works especially well with winter scenes, old Dutch or European towns, fairytale villages, markets, bakeries, canals, workshops, carriages, railway stations, castles and enchanted forests.

It can also generalize surprisingly well to less obvious subjects such as museums, observatories, botanical gardens, caves and haunted houses.

    How to Use It

This LoRA was created for Krea 2 and works best with natural English descriptions rather than short tag lists.

Start with a LoRA strength around:

    0.75–0.85

Increase it toward 1.0 if you want the illustrated style to dominate more strongly. Lower values allow more of the underlying Krea 2 model and its character rendering to remain visible.

    Trigger Word

    The training trigger is:

    apieckstyle

    However, the trigger is optional.

The visual style is strongly present in the LoRA weights themselves, so in many prompts the LoRA works perfectly well without apieckstyle. This can sometimes give Krea 2 a little more freedom to follow the subject and composition.

Use the trigger when you want to reinforce the trained style:

apieckstyle, a busy nineteenth-century winter market...

    Or simply leave it out:

    A busy nineteenth-century winter market...

Try both with the same seed and use whichever version works best for your particular scene.

    Classic Illustration or Storybook Mode

Krea 2 treats the phrase storybook illustration as a recognizable style of its own. Combining it with this LoRA creates a warmer, friendlier and more openly fairytale-like result.

It often gives characters softer faces, rounder features and more expressive, child-friendly appearances. This works particularly well for enchanted forests, gnomes, fairy villages and nostalgic theme-park scenes.

For a more traditional historical look

    Use wording such as:

A detailed vintage European pen-and-watercolor illustration, with delicate uneven ink linework, softly faded muted colors and subtly caricatured period figures

This generally produces more restrained figures and places greater emphasis on architecture, atmosphere and historical detail.

    For a warmer fairytale look

    Add:

A richly detailed vintage European storybook illustration

This activates more of Krea 2’s own storybook character language and produces a softer, more whimsical atmosphere.

Neither approach is necessarily better. They are simply two different interpretations of the same LoRA:

    • Without storybook illustration: more historical, nostalgic and architectural

    • With storybook illustration: warmer, friendlier and more Efteling-like

    Prompting Tips

Krea 2 responds best to coherent descriptions. Describe an actual scene rather than stacking unrelated style words.

    A useful structure is:

[main scene and subject], [important people or activity], [architecture and surroundings], [lighting and atmosphere], [illustration treatment]

    For example:

A bustling snow-covered nineteenth-century European market square filled with wooden stalls, bundled townspeople, children and horse-drawn carriages, surrounded by crooked gabled houses with warmly illuminated windows, rendered as a detailed vintage pen-and-watercolor illustration with delicate uneven ink linework and softly faded muted colors.

Include a clear light source whenever possible:

    • Warm lantern light

    • Glowing shop windows

    • Pale winter daylight

    • Golden evening light

    • Moonlight through mist

    • A single oil lamp inside a workshop

The LoRA particularly enjoys scenes with many small activities, but the main subject should still be stated clearly near the beginning of the prompt.

    Example Prompts

    Winter Market

A bustling snow-covered nineteenth-century European market square filled with wooden stalls, bundled townspeople, children pulling sleds and horse-drawn carriages, surrounded by crooked gabled houses with warmly illuminated shop windows, rendered as a detailed vintage European pen-and-watercolor illustration with delicate uneven ink linework and softly faded muted colors.

    Enchanted Fairytale Village

A richly detailed vintage European storybook illustration of an enchanted village hidden among ancient trees, with tiny crooked cottages, wooden bridges, glowing lanterns, smoking chimneys and curious visitors following a winding forest path, painted with gentle color washes and subtle aged paper texture.

    Old Railway Station

A small steam locomotive arriving at a nostalgic woodland railway station, where families wait beside stacked luggage, brass lanterns and crooked wooden buildings beneath tall old trees, illustrated with fine expressive ink lines, faded natural colors and warm afternoon light.

    Historic Workshop

An elderly clockmaker working inside a cramped nineteenth-century workshop filled with pendulum clocks, brass gears, tiny tools and carved wooden cabinets, illuminated by a single oil lamp and rendered as an intricate vintage European illustration.

    Moonlit Manor

A mysterious old manor standing at the end of an overgrown cobblestone path beneath a full moon, with leaning towers, bare trees, glowing attic windows and pale mist surrounding the iron gates, illustrated with delicate ink linework and dark muted watercolor washes.

    Fairytale Park

A richly detailed vintage European storybook illustration of a nostalgic fairytale park at twilight, with crooked village houses, castle towers, a glowing carousel, winding waterways, forest paths and families walking beneath strings of warm lanterns.

    Negative Prompt Suggestions

When your workflow supports negative prompting, this is a useful starting point:

    photorealistic

    Final Notes

This LoRA is at its best when you allow the image to tell a small story.

Do not be afraid to populate the scene with shopkeepers, travelers, musicians, children, horses, dogs or people looking through illuminated windows. The charm often lies in the tiny events happening around the main subject.

You may begin with an ordinary street, a railway station or a simple bakery—but once the lanterns are lit, the roofs begin to lean and snow starts falling between the old houses, Krea 2 may quietly turn it into a place that feels as though it has existed in an illustrated book for a hundred years.
