The model I think is fairly self explanatory.
Malebolgia's soapbox.
Saw a bizarre video by one 'NotAndersWrld', his commentary isn't exactly important, he doesn't say anything out of the ordinary. But he comments on an internet creep who thinks the age of consent is arbitrary.
And I have to agree that it is arbitrary, and actually doesn't go far enough, and is hard to argue due to the arbitrary nature of the dates chosen being 18-21.
Now before you grab your pitch forks, I'm not saying it should be lowered, I'm saying the opposite.
The age of consent should be 25-28, I guess what people would easier agree to would be, would be 25. And there's a good reason for that.
25 is the youngest age I understand that the brain stops developing, and I think that's a good benchmark for where we should place legal responsibility on a person.
Furthermore, I don't think people are nearly as educated as they need to be at 18-21, I think university should be considered mandatory and publicly funded. I think education should continue until a person has earned a degree of any kind, be it trades school, or a university degree. I don't think educating the youth until 18 and dumping them into the wild world after high-school is enough.
I've had a lot of sex in my life, a lot more than most, more than anyone I've ever met, starting from the age of 8 until I stopped having casual sex around 28 or so, I'm about 36 now. But I was never really aware of what I was doing, and the harm I was inflicting on myself by engaging in sexual acts in all manners of ways I was unprepared for.
I don't think that 18-21 is old enough to really be prepared for knowing what an abusive relationship or situation is, or to understand when you're being taken advantage of.
People might be under the false pretense that all sex is fun, but that's just ignorance from not having much experience. We need to equip the young better to be able to deal with relationships and the exploitation that can come from them.
The false notion that an arbitrary age that low with no reasoning behind it is good enough to protect them, is not good enough. The youth deserve to be protected from what I've been through, and if that means they get upset for not being more easily abused, then they can just accept it and deal with it. Not allowing kids to smoke, likewise, is to protect them, even if there are dumb kids who engage in it at their own detriment.
