this is definitely like '90-'92 before alternative rock upended fashion and eating disorders. does some late-'80s aesthetic permeate through these few years? absolutely. everyone knew the '80s were ugly af and needed somewhere to go but everyone was so coked up on promises of trickle-down they had no idea where to go with it. mopey kurt cobain and coffee-shop napkin-poet eddie vedder were a blessing and a curse.
by the way, some parts of the mid-west still look like the late 80s today. moms who never gave up on bon-jovi, having bon-jovi-fan kids and bon-jovi-fan grandkids... all rocking out to bon-jovi this very minute in a mid-century lead-piped split-level house with carpeted bathrooms bafflingly worth more than the entire sum of what the previous two generations made put together...
