That note about needing an extension to use LyCORIS files in AUTOMATIC1111 is wrong, as the current version now (finally) natively supports LyCORIS format. You can simply drop the file in with your other LoRAs and it will show up with the rest of them in the LoRA tab of your extended networks.

From the perspective of an end user creating prompts, there is no longer a meaningful difference the two formats, unless you're doing something very technical or you have some specific reason to be using an older version of AUTOMATIC1111. (Most GUIs other than AUTO1111 have already been natively supporting LyCORIS forever.)
