Jennifer-Lynn Hayden, known as Jade, is a superheroine in DC Comics, distinguished by her connection to the mystical Starheart energy. Created by writer Roy Thomas and artist Jerry Ordway, she made her debut in All-Star Squadron #25 in September 1983. As the daughter of Alan Scott, the Golden Age Green Lantern, and Rose Canton, the villainous Thorn, Jade and her fraternal twin brother Todd Rice (Obsidian) were separated at birth and placed for adoption due to their mother's unstable dual personality. Raised unaware of her heritage, Hayden manifested innate abilities tied to the Starheart—a magical force that empowered her father's lantern—resulting in her characteristic green-tinted skin and hair when active.
Jade's powers include the generation of green energy constructs, flight, energy projection, and absorption, functioning similarly to Green Lantern abilities but without requiring a power ring initially. She first embraced her heroic identity upon discovering her lineage and joining Infinity, Inc., a team composed of legacy heroes and descendants of the Justice Society of America. Throughout the 1980s and 1990s, she participated in numerous adventures with Infinity, Inc. and later the Justice League, developing a notable romantic relationship with Kyle Rayner, the modern Green Lantern, during his tenure.
Significant developments marked Jade's trajectory, including a period where she wielded a Green Lantern power ring and served in the Corps. She met a heroic demise during the Rann-Thanagar War in 2005–2006, sacrificing herself to save lives. Subsequently resurrected as a Black Lantern during Blackest Night (2009–2010), she was later fully revived. In the DC Rebirth era and beyond, Jade has reemerged with much of her classic history intact, assuming prominent roles in the Justice Society of America, including serving as interim chairwoman in ongoing series, reinforcing her status as a key legacy figure in the DC Universe.
