Lol there was a very brief time in America where we made extremely high quality Anime localizations (like the Pokemon opening that Japanese eventually adopted).

I dont think they ever used it in the JP anime. I could be wrong but I thought the English version was universally accepted to be superior to the first Japanese opening.
(I am extremely biased on this so I could be blind but I thought this was the case)
@CitronLegacy JP first opening is soooooo iconic and has so many versions! Such a classic.
BUT! Rica Matsumoto, the voice of ash and singer, has been semi-up-to-date with the english speaking community so she officially did sing the english opening a couple of times too for funnsies here and there, yay! But pokemon copmany itself does not want the JP audience to know that the english version of pokemon exists xd Didn't even get pokemon puzzle league in japan cause it was to cluttered with ENG audio content!

She also met up with the english voice actress for ash before! fun!

@Nukichuu Oh ok good to know. I was definitely blinded by nostalgia goggles lol.
"pokemon company itself does not want the JP audience to know that the english version of pokemon exists" this makes a lot of sense. In general, I prefer Anime to remain purely Japanese (or Japanese perspective) and not be corrupted but outside influences.
This is a great performance! I'm not sure, the voice sounds kind of familiar but I'm horrible at remembering musician names lol.
