Ryunosuke Fujinami was born the only child of her unnamed father, Mr. Fujinami. Unfortunately, Ryunosuke had the misfortune of being born a daughter to a father preoccupied with passing on his oceanfront café, the Hamachaya, to a male successor. As a result, he tried to bring Ryunosuke up as his son, using deception and violence in a continuous, futile effort to convince Ryunosuke to adhere to his irrational wishes. After destroying their beach teashop in an argument with her father, they move into Tomobiki High School and manage the school store while Ryunosuke attends school.
