A fragment of power that patrons first bestow upon their contractors, and unstable magic proving the pact with a forbidden entity. 
Imbued with the caster's will, it fires a raw sinew of power from another dimension, piercing foes with unbelievable force. 

Humans eventually get used to it. Even if it's not their own power.
