Totally agree, his sample images are all Controlnet pinned and don't have a good representation of the character's clothing.
He's in such a hurry to create his character Lora, that he's letting all the details slide.

If I may help you in debugging your problem, the cause(s) of your problem may be because
1. The LORA file is not placed in the correct directory.
2. Your negative prompt is messing up your output.

Actually this author did a great job on his characters lora, it really fit well on my private model.
So I think you should try different way to make image with it
