It was in wide use among Avars, Eastern Armenians, Abazins, Abkhazians, Azerbaijanis, Balkars, Chechens, Circassians, Georgians, Ingush, Karachays, Kumyks, Nogais, Ossetians, Tats, the peoples of Dagestan, as well as Terek, Kuban, Cossacks, Kurds from Russian empire who adopted it from the aforementioned peoples.
