Dora Winifred "D.W." Read is the younger sister of Arthur and the older sister of Kate. She is the middle child in the Read family. She is a preschooler in Ms. Morgan's class, and later, a kindergartener in Ms. Velez's class. She is often framed as a "brat" through her interactions with people such as her friends, acquaintances and family who she can use as an asset for her determination to get her way. D.W. is often conscious of who she is and could be, and her imaginary friend, Nadine, seems to double as her conscience. She still has a love for her family members, including Arthur, who she constantly argues with, and friends such as Emily and Bud.
