The circumstances that led to its creation make it a unique presence. However, when I was a child

-Continuous problems with the drive system made it barely work

-(The original model) had no onboard machine gun, so it was heavily damaged by close-quarters attacks from Soviet infantry swarming like ants※

Only negative points were talked about, and it was labeled a "useless tank."

However, due to documents discovered from various sources afterwards, it seems that the evaluation has completely changed.

-Only one tank was destroyed by artillery fire from an enemy tank (most were abandoned on the front line or self-destructed because they could not be recovered due to damage or problems with the drive system)

It's an incredible achievement that makes you think "No matter how you look at it, it's a lie." Calling such a tank a "useless tank" is a major misunderstanding due to a lack of information.

僅かに90両という生産量。しかしながら

・タイガーI型をも上回る超火力

・モーターで動く戦車

・メイドbyポルシェ

と、その誕生に至る経緯もあわせ、なにかと異彩を放つ存在です。ところが私の子供の頃は

・駆動系のトラブル続きでろくに動かない

・(当初のモデルは)車載機銃がないため、蟻のように群がるソ連歩兵の肉薄攻撃で大損害を受けた※

などとネガティブな点のみが語られ、「ダメ戦車」のレッテルを貼られていたものです。

ところが以後に見つかった各方面の資料によって、現在はその評価は一変してしまっているようです。

・敵戦車からの砲撃で撃破されたのは僅か一両のみ（多くは駆動系の破損・トラブルによって回収不能になった為、前線に放棄・または自爆）

・敵戦闘車両の撃破数、およそ1,000両・・・

「いくら何でも嘘だろう」と思うような凄まじい戦果です。これほどの戦車を「ダメ戦車」と呼んでいたとは、情報不足による事実誤認もいいところですね。

エレファントはベルリン陥落まで戦い続けたのでした。
