No over-rendered details, no hesitant sketching: this is the master of negative space, where a single confident sweep of a sumi-e brush defines a Dior gown, and a stark splash of crimson red defines an entire era of haute couture.
About the Artist & The Style

René Gruau is the undisputed master of 20th-century fashion illustration, the visual architect behind the iconic campaigns for Dior, Balenciaga, and Givenchy.

Signature Concept: The power of omission. Gruau understood that what is left unpainted is as important as what is painted. His work relies on vast expanses of bare paper, suggesting form rather than detailing it.

The Manner: Calligraphic, fluid, and decisive. He combined the discipline of Japanese sumi-e ink painting with Parisian haute couture. A single bold black stroke for a silhouette, a soft watercolor wash for a shadow, and an unrendered void for the rest.

Palette & Light: Stark, high-contrast. Dominantly black ink and bright white paper, punctuated by explosive, deliberate accents of striking crimson red (a lip, a glove, a sweeping skirt) or occasional soft pastel gouache washes.

The Subjects: Elegant women in sweeping New Look silhouettes, theatrical divas behind velvet curtains, swans, leopards, long-gloved hands, and iconic perfume flacons.

Tested Generation Settings (Krea2)
ParameterValueLoRARene_Gruau_krea2_3385001_epoch_20Base modelKrea2Steps8 (Crucial: keeps the ink strokes crisp and prevents the model from "over-finishing" the minimalist negative space)SamplerEuler ASchedulerBong TangentResolution1024×1536 (vertical editorial fashion plate) / 896×1152LoRA weight0.90–1.0 (at 1.0 the bold brushwork and vast negative space lock in perfectly)Positive-only disciplinefashion illustration, bold ink brushstroke, vast negative space, haute couture minimalism, paper texture
Trigger Words
Core Triggers:
fashion illustration in the manner of René Gruau
,
bold ink brushstroke
,
haute couture minimalism
Boosters:
vast white negative space
,
striking crimson red accent
,
sumi-e brush influence
,
unrendered areas
,
mid-century editorial chic
